Listen and try

  1. Who wanted a fair chance?
  2. Ruby Bridges, a Black child, helped open a school to Black children in New Orleans.
  3. Earlier, Mamie Tape’s Chinese American family challenged a school that kept her out.
  4. A court said the school law supported Mamie, but officials still sent Chinese children to a separate school.
  5. Both stories show courage; the results were not the same.
  6. One: Look at Ruby’s source picture and the Tape family source.
  7. Two: Listen to what each family sought.
  8. Three: Notice that their results differed.
For the grown-up

Look at the source pictures. Listen to what Ruby and Mamie wanted.

Goal: Children and families have challenged unfair school rules. (K.1.2, K.1.3).
